'Prevent Teen Pregnancy Day' set for May 5

Georgia has the 10th highest teen birth rate in the country

Dougherty County has set "Prevent Teen Pregnancy Day" for May 5.

Chairman Jeff Sinyard read a proclamation with representatives from Phoebe's Network of Trust at Monday's commission meeting. Georgia has the 10th highest teen birth rate in the country. For every 1,000 births in Dougherty County, 75.5 are teen moms. That rate is higher than the state.

Teen childbearing cost Dougherty County taxpayers $5.8 million in 2004. National Prevent Teen Pregnancy Day is also May 5.
