Burglars took advantage of a sudden power outage in Moultrie on September 26th by breaking into multiple stores.

The Moultrie Police Department says during the four-hour outage, the glass was broken at Prepaid Zone, Ameris Bank and Dollar General, but there were only food and clothing items missing from the Dollar General.

"I'm not sure exactly why, it could've been several reasons. They might've seen a patrol car come by or somebody down the road and got discouraged," said Investigator Raul Leal.

Police say they're not sure if the three break-ins are related but during future power outages they're going to step up their patrol to prevent similar crimes from happening again.
