Albany police say a man was looking for scrap metal near Riverside Cemetery when he came across a black nylon bag containing what appears to be a human skull.
They say the man contacted media before contacting police. Police later received a call about the skull at 6:18 p.m. on Monday.
Albany police say the skull has not been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, but they are sending it to the GBI lab in Macon Wednesday morning. APD is also exploring what avenues need to be taken to collect information, such as gender, race, identity, about the mystery skull.
APD officials say investigators are looking into the skull being a result from past floods, seeing as it was found in the cemetary. Investigators are also looking into why the skull was found inside a bag.
Tuesday morning, investigators scanned the area where the skull was found, and no additional remains were found.
