Pine Avenue fire displaces residents
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 11:37:48 GMT —
On Friday morning, the Albany Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 600 block of Pine Avenue.
The home was occupied by a family of 12, each of which made it out safely, but were displaced due to the fire.
The American Red Cross stepped in to make sure all the residents have a place to live for the next three days.
Thanks to donations from the public the residents have been put up at the Nights Inn.
The Red Cross has also given each family member money for food, clothing, and shoes, worth about $2200.
Michael Shivok, a volunteer with the American Red Cross says, "life is about helping others and reaching out and knowing a family is in a safe place with food and shelter makes me know I helped get the job done."
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
