The Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Committee of Professional Affairs held their first meeting of the year on Monday afternoon.

The committee meets once a month to oversee the credentials of all staff and incoming employees to make sure the hospital employs the right people.

Dr. Doug Patten says during the meeting, which is done mostly in executive session, they'll welcome the board's newest member, Dr. Steve Kitchen who is also the newly elected president of the medical staff before reviewing credentials.

Dr. Patten adds that although the hospital board is the overseer of all hiring done within the hospital, the committee delves into the applicant's backgrounds to make sure there are no malpractice issues or to see if the person has received any recognition for their work so that the board can hire the best possible person for the position.
