Pesky mosquitoes prove pricey for counties

Mosquito larva in Dougherty County / Jessica Fairley

Hot weather is here and that means mosquito season has started.

Counties are shelling out thousands to prevent mosquito bites.

It's costing Lee County at least $32,000 a year and Dougherty County pays about $51,000 for pesticides.

Officials determine where to spray by population and complaints.

Homeowners are advised to dry out any standing mud holes and empty out old tires to prevent larva growth.
