Pelham homes to receive upgrades due to grant
PELHAM, Ga. —
More than 50 residents in Pelham will soon have their homes upgraded for free.
This is the first time Pelham got a Community Development Block Grant for housing.
Pelham has a 38% poverty rate, and many homes aren’t up to code. The grant will focus on fixing homes on Liberia Street and in the Liberia alley.
More than $700,000 will be used to fix low to moderate income homes in bad shape.
“Everybody needs a safe place to live,” Pelham City Manager Jim Hedges said. “We need to make sure that they have storm windows, storm doors, good electric good plumbing, and a good roof. This grant will make sure the homes we are going to work on are up to building code.”
Residents interested should contact the city to start the application process.
