Pecan paradise celebrates harvest

Baconton Georgia celebrates "Pecan festival 2012." / Matt Prichard

The City of Baconton held its annual Pecan festival celebrating this year's harvest.

Each year the town brings in their harvest with games, bar-b-que, and of course plenty of pecans. But event organizers say this event isn't just a festival, it's a statement for the Baconton community.

"Baconton Georgia is the birthplace of the paper-shelled Pecan. I know other places that claim to be the pecan capitol, but we here in Baconton are the pecan capitol of the world," said Chairman of the festival, Johnny Jackson.

Jackson says the event is something the community looks forward to year-round and can't wait to continue the tradition next year.
