Pastor organizes HIV/AIDS lecture
HIV/AIDS kills more African Americans than any other race, so a pastor in Tifton is trying to do something different.
Reverend Rudolph Porter brought in Dr. Cameron Nixon with Affinity Clinic to talk about it.
Rev. Porter, pastor at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, is a masters student at Albany State University.
This idea comes after watching a documentary in one of his classes. He was surprised to learn AIDS is at an epidemic level here in the United States.
"There are 20,000 Afro Americans dying from AIDS in comparison to 3,000 whites," Porter said. "And we're basically calling it cancer instead of addressing it in a comprehensive, informative way."
Reverend Porter says he wants to make this a regular event.
