May is also known as National Trauma Awareness Month and The American Trauma Society and the Society of Trauma Nurses are raising awareness with their "If You're Distracted, We're Impacted" campaign.
The national campaign encourages area residents to put down their cell phones and focus on driving safety.
FOX 31 spoke to several Southwest Georgians today who say they believe the Trauma Unit and the Emergency Room are overused. Many of them guessed when asked why most people visit the E.R. that it was because of car accidents.
All of the folks FOX 31 spoke to said there is a real problem in this area with texting and driving, even though some of them are guilty of doing it themselves. Everyone also agreed that there needs to be stricter laws when it comes to distracted driving.
