Operation Pill Drop coming to Dougherty County

      Over-the-counter medications

The national Drug Enforcement Agency is sponsoring a unique event in Albany to help curb prescription drug abuse.

Operation Pill Drop will take place Saturday, September 25th at the Albany Civic Center.

Members of the community are encouraged to bring all unwanted, unused, and outdated prescriptions so they can be disposed of properly.

Medication that's left around the house can fall into the wrong hands because people don't know what to do with their leftover pharmaceuticals.

"People don't know where they can dispose of it," said Chief Don Cheek of the Dougherty County Police Department. "Pharmacies can't take drugs back."

Operation Pill Drop is a joint effort between the DEA, Dougherty County Police, the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office, Albany Police Department, and Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful.
