A 32-year-old man was injured after a single car accident Friday morning on Slappey Boulevard.

Police say that Donald Phelps Jr. was traveling south on Slappey Boulevard when he veered over into the northbound lane of traffic then left the roadway.

Phelps then struck the curb and hit a utility pole and a traffic pole before coming to a stop and the vehicle caught fire as a result of the impact.

Albany police arrived on scene before the fire department and were able to use fire extinguishers to put out the flames.

Once the Albany Fire Department arrived, Phelps was removed from the vehicle then transported by EMS for treatment.
