Officials say school closing process is moving too fast

Ealum and Howard say the process of closing the schools the board has recommended is moving too fast.

FOX 31 learned Wednesday that the Dougherty County Board of Education made recommendations to close Sylvester Road Elementary School and Dougherty Middle School.

School board member Darrel Ealum and Albany City Commissioner John Howard held a press conference Friday afternoon to express their opinions that this process is moving too fast. They both mentioned how concerned they are with these school closing and they encourage the public to speak out to officials as well.

Ealum said a final decision could be made as early as February and added that the press conference was not to say whether closing the schools was right or wrong, but that he and Howard agree more time should be spent on these critical decisions.Stay connected to as stories develop and the FOX 31 Newscast at 10 PM.
