The Black Friday shopping experience is upon us but before you leave home law enforcement officials have some tips you may want to keep in mind.

Officials say when you get too many bags to carry in your hand it's a good idea to take the bags to the car and put them in the trunk. If there isn't room in the car, make a trip home, drop off the load and head back to the stores.

"Don't be in any rush and be very careful. There's going to be a lot of people out," said Major Keith Houston, Lee County Sheriff's Office.

Also try to avoid dark areas and always know your surroundings. If the kids are tagging along keep a close eye on the location.

Tift County Sheriff Gene Scarbrough says if you are heading to your car do not hold conversations with strangers because they may be up to no good and also contact police if you see something suspicious.
