No more Christmas bonuses for Lee County employees
With almost $2 million dollars in budget cuts needed for 2014, the Lee County Finance Committee decided to do away with the Christmas bonus checks for county employees during their meeting Tuesday afternoon.
Members say it was a tough decision but they feel it was the best way to go considering the funds were taken from the citizens, who struggling with the current economy.
"Taking taxpayer money at that point in time is inconsistent with best government practices and although it's been a tradition within Lee County, I believe there are other ways that we can better take care of our county's employees," said Commissioner Greg Frich.
Frich says one of the things they're doing to help long-term is temporarily holding off on hiring new employees until they find out how they financially stand so they won't have to furlough anyone next year.
