The Dougherty County Board of Education met tonight adding a new scholarship to the district from the Downtown Sertoma Club.

The Albany based group will be donating $500.00 dollars to a scholarship, helping hearing impaired students over the course of the school year.

Officials with the club say this is a perfect way to give back to the community.

"This is a wonderful opportunity, because we have an opportunity to give back not only from a national standpoint of working on hearing impediments, but also giving back to the community, to our students who are our future," said Downtown Sertoma Club President, Jawahn Ware.

Ware says board and club members are excited to start this new scholarship, and hope to see it grow in the coming years.
