New public safety building in Lee County expected to move forward
After a special called meeting, Lee County leaders said they plan to move forward with the opening of the public safety center that was in question.
Board chairman Dennis Roland confirms that at the meeting, the board decided to plan to open up the new station at an existing building on Highway 195.
This Fire/EMS station would be about 10 miles out from Leesburg and would take about $375,000 per year to maintain, according to Roland.
Roland said the original New York Road proposed location was changed because they found that more people will be served by using this new site.
The new station would open up operating with an ambulance and Roland said they would later vote to buy a fire truck.
If the budget is approved next week, leaders want to start hiring and getting the station open by the start of next year.
