New Megan's House open for children in Albany
The new Megan's House in Albany is officially open after four long years and large amounts of donations.
Megan's House is a children's respite home that serves kids from ages 0 to 17 who are medically fragile or developmentally delayed.
There are Megan's houses in Waycross, Valdosta and now, the newest Albany location on Forrester Parkway behind CVS.
The new home has four full bedrooms, a kitchen with items donated from Paula Deen, two handicapped restrooms and a fenced in backyard.
For the past four years, the staff at Easterseals have been collecting funds and making floor plans.
Megan's House coordinator Cathy Jenkins says this really is the dream home.
"The new kids that we serve along with the kids that we've been serving can form bonds together, get to know each other and they have their own little community. We just want those local families to come and utilize our services and we just really want this to be a second home for them," said Jenkins.
