Sharlene Cannon has accepted the position of Interim Downtown City Manager and told FOX 31 Thursday she's hitting the ground running.

Cannon has worked to revitalize several other downtown districts in places like Thomasville, Quincy, Florida, Covington and Chattahoochee, Florida. She says her experience in turning around these other cities makes her a good fit for this new role.

One of Cannon's top priorities is to change the negative way of thinking in Albany. She wants people to know that downtown areas like Albany can and will turn around, she says she knows this because she's seen it happen before.

FOX 31 also spoke to ADICA board member Tommy Gregors who said his biggest advice to Cannon is to immerse herself in the community.

Both Cannon and Gregors said the plans with Shannon Development along with other initiatives first started by Aaron Blair will continue.
