New health fair comes to Smithville

In honor of a Smithville native who died last year from a brain tumor, one Smithville City Councilwoman wants to help raise awareness about knowing your health.

She hosted the first ever health fair.

Folks who came out were screened for blood pressure, body mass index, and glucose levels.

They were also given educational materials on prostate health, asthma, and dental hygiene.

Smithville Council woman Ilean Bady says, "we need to know about symptoms to look for when you start to feel bad you need to be trying to get it checked out and often times you can catch it in the early stages before it's to late and prevent a death."

Bady hopes to have a health fair every year in the city.
