Tifton Police Department adds new equipment
TIFTON, Ga. —
The Tifton Police Department has a new equipment to help do their job and remain safe at the same time.
This is the first time the department is using a Taser. These Tasers can fire every time the trigger is pulled.
According to the department, this is a great alternative to batons or sprays since they can use it up to 25 feet away. That gives the officer distance from the person and the advantage.
“You can pinpoint a certain individual, and deal with that person,” Tifton Police School Resource Officer Ed Yarbrough said. “Rather than deploy a spray, where you, as an officer, gets sprayed with it, and everyone else around you gets sprayed with it.”
Every officer went through an eight hour course to learn how to properly use the Taser.
