Hundreds of people from across southwest Georgia and other parts of the state are gathering in Albany to welcome a guest whose theme is 'Serving from the Heart of our Veterans'.

Leanne Lemley, the National President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, is in town this week to meet and greet with locals and to inform them on the programs that are in place.

Lemley also plans to speak on how to get their membership numbers up.

She says currently the numbers are a tad low, but if more people join, the organization will have an even stronger pull in Washington.

"If it were not for our grass roots members, we would not have this wonderful organization. So it's my job to tell them how important they are and how much they are appreciated," said Leanne Lemley, National President for the Ladies of Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Wednesday night a large banquet will be held in Lemley's honor.
