National Guard members welcomed by hundreds
Nearly 80 soldiers were welcomed home in Cordele on Friday after spending the last three weeks becoming combat-ready.
The National Guard Unit went through many exercises to build upon all operations and now that they've received their certification, Company Commander Matt Smith says they can be called upon to serve at a moment's notice.
"The unit, being a National Guard Unit, could be deployed at any particular moment, whether it's word-wide or here at home, so this training as well as the training they do on a monthly basis is absolutely critical to maintain that mission readiness," said Commander Smith.
The soldiers will spend the next few days enjoying the certainty of being home, but beginning on October 1st they'll be part of a cycle that can be deployed at any time throughout the next year.
