The following information was released by the office of the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia:Michael J. Moore, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announced that Mr. Jonathan Moody, age 25, of Nashville, Georgia, entered a plea of guilty on July 31, 2013, to two counts of counterfeiting involving United States currency. The guilty plea was entered before the Honorable Hugh Lawson, Senior United States District Judge for the Middle District of Georgia, in Valdosta, Georgia.
In his plea of guilty Mr. Moody admitted that he knowingly passed counterfeit $100 and $20 bills, using the counterfeit money to make purchases and receive change in genuine currency from merchants in the Valdosta area, causing financial losses to those businesses.
Sentencing for Mr. Moody has been set for October 28, 2013, in Valdosta. Mr. Moody faces up to twenty (20) years imprisonment and a $250,000.00 fine on each of the two counts.
The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and the Lowndes County Sheriff TMs Office. Assistant United States Attorney Robert D. McCullers is handling the prosecution for the Government.
