Moultrie Technical College accounting students are getting first hand experience preparing taxes this month.

At the same time, those who need their taxes filed can do so for free. The Colquitt County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is offering help to people filing simple returns for the fifth year.

These students are now able to put to work what they have been studying in the classroom, along with help from their instructor.

"We are learning the new laws that have come into effect, what you have to do, and what is allowed and what's not allowed to be claimed," student Ann Gay said.

They will be doing free tax preparation at the college February 10, 11, 18, 20, 25, and 27 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. To make an appointment, call the Moultrie YMCA at (229) 985-1154.
