Some people in Moultrie have been victims of a telephone scam involving identity theft and credit card fraud.
Scammers are claiming to be with the City of Moultrie and telling customers their utility bills are late and their service will be disconnected.
In a press release, the City of Moultrie reassures customers they have safety measures in place to protect personal and financial information. City officials say if they do call customers, they will provide you with information that only you and the city would know.
They say if you ever feel hesitant about a call, hang up and call the city on its main line at (229) 985-1974.
