The Downtown Albany Merchants Association says they are proud of the progress the area's made in the last year, and they hope to show it off through a family oriented event.
"First Friday" will be held the first Friday of every month on Broad Avenue and Washington Street between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. It will feature local artists, musicians and street performers. Restaurants will also stay open late for the event.
"Everybody runs to the west side and sits down at outback and your larger steakhouses and stuff, there's local businesses down here working hard serving great food, they've got a lot of nice stores down here so get down here and check it out," says Jason Warren, Vice President for the Downtown Merchants Association and Co-Owner of Our Daily Bread.
He says money raised during First Friday will be donated to a local non-profit that does work in the city.
Warren says they want people to know Downtown Albany is still having their Nights@Dtown event on the last Friday of every month. The Downtown Albany Urban Garage Sale is still continuing on the first Saturday of the month.
