Monroe staff member charged for inappropriate touching
A Monroe Comprehensive High School staff member has been charged after a Wednesday morning incident.
Dougherty County School System officials say that a student reported an incident of inappropriate touching by a staff member to school police. An investigation began and after reviewing video evidence and conducting an interview with the student and consulting with outside agencies including the Lily Pad SANE Center, the Department of Family and Children's Services and the District Attorney's Office, it was determined that there was sufficient evidence to support an arrest.
The employee has been charged with two felony counts of sexual assault by persons with a supervisory or disciplinary authority.
As a result of the incident, DCSS Superintendent Kenneth Dyer is recommending termination of the staffer's employment.
"Student safety remains our top priority in the Dougherty County School System," said Dyer. "As soon as this incident was brought to our attention, our investigators and administrators acted swiftly to investigate it, remove the staff member from the school setting and take appropriate steps to bring charges."
