Monroe HS invites public to check out 'much needed' renovations
Monroe Comprehensive High School is nearly ready to debut more than $30 million worth of renovations.
Upgrades to a new academic wing should be completed by the time students return to class in January, according to DCSS Public Information Officer J.D. Sumner; renovations to the gym will also wrap up early next year, Sumner said.
"It was much needed, and it really will transform the landscape of South Albany and Monroe," Sumner said.
But before then, Monroe will be holding an open house to invite students, alumni and the community to tour the renovations.
The open house will be on Dec. 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Past and present Golden Tornadoes who stop by will also have the opportunity to write their names on the floor beneath the new basketball court.
"They'll have that lasting memento so 100 years from now, when the next set of renovations goes on in that gym and they tear up the floor, they'll be like, oh, there's where this alumni signed the floor," Sumner said.
