Hundreds gathered Monday evening at the First African Baptist Church in Sylvester to honor Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and give back to the community.

Eight churches participated in the annual Lela Walker MLK program.

Local businesses and churches raised money to fill boxes with food and once the service was over, the food was donated to families in need.

"We come together to fight for our rights, do things to help the community, help each other out, help those who are of different cultures to come together and know that we all stand for the same cause, that is to live free and have equal rights," said Willie Jenkins, First African Baptist Church Pastor.

Jenkins says all money raised is also donated to those in need.
