UPDATE: 9/12/12

Mitchell County Investigator Melvin Ray confirms that officers and a K-9 Unit have recovered 24-year-old David Gilbert. Gilbert was found in Miller County staying with family. Police say at this time they think Gilbert's girlfriend picked him up and dropped him off at a family members house in Miller County. Gilbert will be charged with felony escape and its possible that his girlfriend and family members hiding him could be charged with aiding an escapee.

The Mitchell County Sheriff's Office needs your help finding an escaped inmate.

Deputies are looking for David Gilbert, a 24-year-old black male that is 5'9' and weighs 180 lbs.

Officials say that he escaped from work detail around 8:30 to 9 AM.

Gilbert has family in Baconton, where they were initially searching but officials don't believe he is there any more.

Tracking dogs picked up a scent and led officers to Gilbert's boots, and orange shirt.

It is believed that Gilbert has girlfriends in Dougherty and Colquitt County. Both sheriff department's are helping with the search.

The inmate was being held at the Mitchell County Correctional Institute.
