The Marine Corps Logistics Base has had an aggressive recycling campaign since 1993.
The base diverted 1,364 tons from the landfill last year. In 2000, they diverted 444 tons... an improvement of 1,000 tons in ten years. By executive order the MCLB must reduce 50 percent of its recyclable goods. The base is considered a leader among military installations for its recycling efforts. They also recycle aerosol cans by removing the hazardous material and turning the can into recyclable waste.
The base also works with contractors to recycle their waste including circuit boards and metals... adding employee involvement is key to the success of the program.
