      Missing Transitional Center inmate sought in Valdosta

      Valdosta police announced Tuesday morning that Marvin Smith was arrested by Glynn County Police last Thursday and has been returned to the Lowndes County Jail.

      Initial Story
      An inmate who left the Valdosta Transitional Center on June 12 and failed to return is being sought by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office for escape.

      According to Sheriff's officials, Marvin Smith is 5'9", weighs 160 pounds, brown hair with some balding and blue eyes.

      Following Smith's disappearance, deputies took a report of a vehicle theft in close proximity to the Transition Center. The vehicle, a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is gray-in-color and had a Georgia tag: ACU7690 displayed at the time of the theft. It has not been confirmed if these events are related.

      Smith was originally incarcerated for a motor vehicle theft in Glynn County.

      Anyone having contact with Marvin Smith or the vehicle should immediately contact their local law enforcement.
