October is domestic violence awareness month and Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany held its annual domestic violence awareness proclamation ceremony Tuesday morning.

Active marines and civilian workers took a short ride around town a little before 9 a.m. on motorcycles to start the event.

The purpose of the ceremony was to raise awareness and educate active duty members, their family and civilians on the impact of domestic violence. They also wanted to let everyone know that there is support available for them within the local community.

Public affairs officer Captain Justin Jacobs of the Marine Corps Logistics Base said "domestic violence is an issue, an unfortunate issue we have in society and the biggest thing and most important thing is raising awareness and prevention so that our marines and sailors and civilian marines know where to go to get help if and when they need it."
