Marine returns from Afghanistan and surprises daughters

Sloan hugs his wife and youngest daughter / Romney Smith

Marines welcomed back one of their own this afternoon at the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport.

Armed with American flags, cameras, and balloons, Gunnery Sgt. Fredrick Sloan's wife brought their two young daughters to the airport to welcome back a marine. However the girls had no idea that they would be welcoming back their father! The Sloan family was joined by other members from the Marine Corps Logistics Base.

Sloan was deployed in Afghanistan for eight months where he worked as part of a communication team. "I was a part of the communication directorate and we did outreach in four different areas like youth, sports, religion, and borders and tribes. It was a unique job, I actually wore civilian attire the whole time, grew a beard, so it was an interesting assignment" says Sloan.

He adds now that he's back in the states he plans to take some time to relax and spend as much time as possible with his family.
