Man wanted for Albany Heights fires

Officials with the Terrell County Sheriff's Office have confirmed that Ballard has been arrested for unrelated charges in Dawson.

Ballard was arrested for failure to maintain lane, leaving the scene of an accident, expired tags, and not having proof of insurance.

He is currently being held on a $1,069 cash bond.

The Albany Fire Department says a warrant has been taken for 54-year-old James L. Ballard of Albany, regarding arson charges and his suspected involvement in the six fires at the Albany Heights apartment complex in March.

Ballard is a former resident of the Pine Avenue apartment building and is believed to be residing in the Albany area, officials say.

Investigators noted most of the fires where small, some started in trash cans but the worst was set on a piece of furniture inside the building.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts are expected to call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS or the Albany Police Department.

Other charges are pending in this case.
