      Man shot at his mother's funeral

      Deputies say they took 62-year-old Helen Anne Cason into custody and warrants will be taken out for charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, multiple counts of reckless conduct, and cruelty to children during this week.

      The Sumter County Sheriff's Office say that around 2:59 p.m., their office responded to call in reference to a shooting at the Concord United Methodist Church on Highway 30 in Americus.

      Deputies say they took 62-year-old Helen Anne Cason into custody and warrants will be taken out for charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, multiple counts of reckless conduct, and cruelty to children during this week.

      The man who was shot, 53-year-old Jack Aycock of Americus, was transported to Phoebe Sumter Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound he suffered in the chest.

      The Sumter County Sheriff's Office confirms that a man was shot this afternoon.

      According to the Americus Times Recorder 53-year-old Jack Aycock was shot in the chest around 3 p.m. at the Concord United Methodist Church on Highway 30 while attending his mother's funeral.

      Aycock was taken to the hospital and the suspect was arrested.

      We're working to find out who the shooter was and as soon as we know we'll update this story.
