      Man arrested for drugs after falling asleep in car

      Police arrested Mayberry and he is facing possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and impeding traffic charges. / Dougherty County Jail


      A man asleep behind the wheel at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 7th Avenue receieved a wakeup call from the Albany Police Department Friday morning.

      Albany police say they arrested a 33-year-old Earl Mayberry for possession of a white rocky substance believed to be crack cocaine after receiving a call from a concerned driver just before 6 a.m. about a driver being asleep behind the wheel.

      When police arrived, they approached the 2009 Chevy Equinox and tried many times to wake the driver.

      When the Mayberry woke up, police discovered a clear bag containing the white rocky substance inside the vehicle.

      Police arrested Mayberry and he is facing possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and impeding traffic charges.

      Mayberry was taken to the Dougherty County Jail while the case has been turned over to the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit for further investigation.
