Lonnie W. Ballard, Jr. named new assistant city manager for public services

Lonnie Ballard says his first priority is to support City Manager James Taylor.

Ballard says there are many great opportunities in Albany that he hopes to look into.

"Tourism is an area that can be further developed. Tourism is a big industry in Georgia and certainly Albany wants to get its fair share," says Ballard.

On February 27, 2012, City Manager James Taylor announced the recommendation of interview panels that included staff, prominent citizens, and community leaders, of the three finalists for the position of Assistant City Manager for Public Services.

Mr. Taylor is pleased to announce that one of the finalists, Mr.. Lonnie W. Ballard, Jr., has accepted the position and is expected to report to duty on April 28, 2012. As described in the earlier release, Mr. Ballard is currently employed as the Assistant City Manager, City of Riverdale, Georgia and has been since 2004. Mr. Ballard possesses a wealth of experience in city government operations and community development. Mr. Ballard earned a bachelor's degree from Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia, majoring in English, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia.
