Local town wins grant to keep kids active
The city of Lenox was named the winner of the KaBOOM! "Let's Play" Community Construction Grant sponsored by Snapple and Dr. Pepper.
Lenox will receive a $16,000 payment to create a playground that encourages kids to stay healthy and active.
Lenox City Council member Jim Marshall went over proposals from four different vendors and recommended the council approve Landscape Structures Incorporated's $31,000 plan â" with the remaining costs being paid for by the city.
Marshall says all four proposals were impressive and in the same price range but LSI's plan stood out because of the company's reputation and the representative's helpfulness.
Marshall also says Lenox is small enough to not be considered an industrial town but it doesn't mean they can't be recreational.
The board officially approved the plan on June 18th and scheduled it to be built at the Roscoe Francis Memorial Park on September 22nd.
