Local teen presumed dead after Florida fishing accident
The search for a missing Nashville teen has been called off. Caster Nova Gray, 17, is now presumed dead.
The teen went fishing last week in shallow water of the bank of Fort Clinch, Florida when witnesses say he stepped into a deep water channel.
Gray was then swept under water by the current.
One witness says he tried to save the victim but could not pull the teen out of the water.
After receiving word of the incident, Fernandina Beach Police officials, with the help of several other law enforcement agencies, began a search to locate Gray.
Helicopters and rescue boats were brought out to recover the victim. The search continued from the shore, the air and by boat through Monday afternoon without any results.
Although the official search has been suspended, officers assigned to the area that patrol the beaches and ocean on a regular basis will continue be alert for any evidence that might lead to the recovery of Gray.
