Local senators and representatives say job market looking up

Local senators and representatives gathered in Tifton today to speak to the Chamber of Commerce about the recent legislative session.

FOX 31 spoke to several of them about jobs in their area and things they are doing to actively create more jobs.

Representative Jay Roberts said the area is coming out of a recession that really impacted jobs but he believes things are slowly but surely getting better. Roberts said his focus is on creating a diverse selection of jobs rather than having just one main industry in his area.

Senator Tyler Harper says he's putting some of his focus on small businesses. Harper believes that small businesses are the staple of every small town in South Georgia and it's those that are creating the largest number of jobs. Harper is also working to create incentives for small business owners, and farmers.

All of the senators and representatives agreed that they still have a long way to go but they believe the economy will be back to how it was before the recession in South Georgia by the year 2017.
