Local search and rescue team headed to east coast
Search and rescue members from Southwest Georgia are headed to help out on the east coast of the state.
Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force 2 team first going to Camden County, in the southeast corner of Georgia, and then might head to different counties from there.
Most of the 33-member team is from the Valdosta Fire Department, while other members are from Albany, Decatur County, Lee County, Lowndes County, Moultrie, Thomas County, Tift County and Worth County.
“The east coast of Georgia is experiencing a lot of flooding,” Dougherty County EMA Director and Fire Chief Ron Rowe said. “Numerous homes have been flooded, and what they’ll be doing of course is assisting with searching for people that may be left behind, rescuing people that may have been there for a while.”
Rowe said the team will be there for nine days.
