Local police chief returns to duty after 9/11
The events on September 11th influenced some Americans to become more patriotic. For a local police chief, it influenced him to return to duty.
Dougherty County Police Chief Don Cheek says he left law enforcement years ago to become a professor at Darton College. He was in his study when he saw the September 11th terrorist attacks, and that's when he heard his calling to return.
"I felt almost like a fish out of water. With everything that was going on post-9/11, I wanted to get back in it," says Cheek.
When he first saw the news that day, Chief Cheek says the tragic events didn't even register with him.
