Local organization to prepare Thanksgiving turkeys for community
TIFTON, Ga. —
A local organization is helping you save the time and stress of trying to cook a turkey for Thanksgiving.
The Literacy Volunteers of Tifton-Tift County is smoking turkeys for people to get with a $25 donation.
The donations will be used to help adults in Tift County that are learning to read and get their GED. It will also help people who are learning to read, write, and speak English as their second language.
Literacy Volunteers of Tifton-Tift County said nearly 20 percent of Tift County residents don’t have their high school diploma.
“We’re trying to help get a more educated workforce, so that they’ll be able to support their families, and be able to participate in society as readers,” Bonnie Sayles, executive director, said. “This is something that is important to everybody.”
The turkeys will be ready for pick up on November 18 at Peace Lutheran Church from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Since it'll be fully cooked, all you have to do is heat it up to serve.
Anyone interested in placing an order should call 229.391.2527 by November 14.
