Joel Wernick, President/CEO of Phoebe Putney Health System, has been named one of Georgia Trend Magazine TMs 100 Most Influential Georgians for the eighth consecutive year. The list appears in the magazine TMs January 2014 edition.Wernick, who has been Phoebe TMs CEO since 1988, was profiled in the special issue with 99 other Georgia leaders, including Governor Nathan Deal, U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop and Jere W. Morehead, president of the University of Georgia.In the profile, the magazine focuses on the essential care provided to the South Georgia region under Wernick TMs leadership, specifically emphasizing access to the area TMs only neonatal intensive care, cardiovascular surgery and radiation oncology service.[These services are provided] to all residents of Southwest Georgia, regardless of circumstance, Georgia Trend reported,He TMs managing in interesting times, during what he terms a tidal wave of change to health delivery systems.Wernick has been named to the list since 2006, and in 2010 was among Georgia Trend TMs picks for the state TMs top 25 leaders.A Fort Smith, Ark., native, Wernick has just completed his 25-year anniversary at Phoebe. During his tenure,the number of physicians has doubled, and employment has grown from 1,500 to almost 4,500 employees. Over the years, several million square feet of additional facility space has been added and state-of-the-art technologies made available to patients. In 1990, Phoebe Putney had one site " Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Today, as a result of a focused growth strategy, Phoebe gives residents access to health care through more than 30 entry points in the region and more than 100 Phoebe physician partners.
