Local Gangster Disciples leader caught in Lowndes County

A 35-year-old man police say is a local gang leader for the Gangster Disciples is behind bars after a low-speed chase in Lowndes County.

Sheriff's investigators, Special Operations Division and the FBI's Southwest Georgia Gang Task Force arrested Ernest Pete around 4:00 p.m. Thursday.

Pete was wanted in Lowndes and Fulton County, which led to a traffic stop when his vehicle was spotted in Valdosta.

After the chase, Pete brandished a firearm at deputies and attempted to flee on foot, but was caught with marijuana being found according to investigators.

Pete faces charges of battery, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault, violation of Georgia Street Gang Terrorism Act, obstruction of an officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and assorted traffic charges.
