Local colleges on fire with credit transfer agreement

Presidents Everette Freeman and Anthony Parker shake hands after signing the agreement Tuesday

Graduates of Albany Technical College's Fire Science Technology program are now able to transfer credits to Albany State University for a bachelor's degree in fire services administration.

This is a first in its kind agreement--normally Albany Tech grads would have to travel out of state for their credits to transfer into the program.

I have 40% of Albany Fire Department that are graduates from here in the department degree and other departments around so this will be exciting for them to be able to transfer from their associate degree to a bachelor's degree, says Albany Tech Program Chairperson Don Laye.

Actually it means a lot because that's what we're all about--service to the community is critical to our mission, says Dr. Fidelis Ikem, Dean of ASU TMs College of Business.

With a bachelor's degree, fire officers can advance to the position of fire chief or other top administrative position.
