Life lost in head-on collision

EMS and law enforcement agencies responded to an accident four miles outside of Ashburn along Highway 112 shortly after six o'clock Wednesday morning.

Georgia State Patrol troopers confirm that 72-year-old Dorothy Blanton was returning to a nearby residence on Highway 112 when she turned off a dirt road near the golf course, crossing into the westbound lane.

While in the westbound lane her car was struck head-on by a tractor trailer; the impact killed her instantly.

Blanton is a nurse at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Officials say that Highway 112 was closed for approximately three hours but is now re-opened to motorists.
