Leesburg police getting new vehicle cameras
The Leesburg Council approved this week a request to purchase video cameras for Leesburg Police vehicles.
The cameras will cost $16,500 and will be installed in city police cruisers not currently outfitted with them.
It will be funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST VI) funds.
"The camera system will be utilized for routine patrol, traffic stops," Lieutenant James Vick said. "Basically with this system, it will be a safeguard for the officers as well as the individuals being stopped."
Leesburg Police hope to have these cameras installed by the end of June.
